American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated academic medical center in Madison, WI, requiring prior travel experience and a minimum of 2 years of high-acuity ED experience.

Details

• Large, 58-bed combined adult and pediatric Emergency Department treating over 60,000 patients annually
• Level I Trauma Center with capabilities including cardiac catheterization, acute stroke care, burn center, and an active ECPR (ECMO) program
• Coordinates care with ground ambulances and Med Flight for critically ill and injured patients
• Patient population spans pediatrics through adults, including psychiatric, neurological, respiratory, orthopedic, and multi-system trauma cases
• Evening and night shifts: 1500–0330 (Eve) or 1900–0730 (Night), with 12-hour shifts and 8-hour shifts as needed
• Weekend and holiday rotation required (up to 1 holiday off per contract)
• Travelers are first to float and may be assigned to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs
• Epic EMR required; experience within the last 12 months preferred
• Experience in a 40+ bed ED preferred

Requirements

• Active WI RN license or a compact RN license from the candidate's permanent address state, must be in hand at time of consideration
• Current AHA-issued certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC
• Minimum 2 years of high-acuity ED experience with both adult and pediatric populations within the last 3 years
• Experience in an academic Level I or Level II Trauma Center required; Level I preferred
• Prior travel nursing experience required, with at least one completed 13-week contract
• Epic EMR experience required
• Basic arrhythmia interpretation experience required; telemetry competency exam must be passed prior to start
• Skills required include: dysrhythmia interpretation and management, triage, 12-lead EKG/ECG, IV therapy, arterial line management, central line care, blood product administration, procedural sedation, and management of ventilated patients
• Candidate's permanent address must be more than 50 miles from the facility

• A telemetry competency exam (adult and pediatric components) must be passed prior to start — candidates have up to two attempts; a third attempt requires submission of a cardiac interpretation review course certificate, and failure after three attempts may result in contract cancellation
• Adult exam requires 100% identification of lethal rhythms (V-fib, V-tach, asystole) and no incorrect answers on 3rd degree heart block questions, with an overall passing score of 80% or higher
• Pediatric exam requires identification of V-fib, V-tach, asystole, and sinus bradycardia with a passing score of 80% or higher
• Orientation is approximately one week and is held every other week; travelers should follow their welcome letter for specific start date, time, and location details
• RTO is generally limited to no more than 2 weeks per contract; requests exceeding 1 consecutive week may result in a contract extension
• Parking on-site requires a permit through UW Transportation; bus, park & ride, and private parking options are also available
• Local candidates are not accepted for this position
• ECMO/ECPR experience is preferred
• Prior charge nurse experience is preferred
