American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry/Med-Surg night shift position requiring telemetry experience, critical drip titration skills, and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a 32-bed Telemetry/Med-Surg unit (4 Pavilion)
• Patient population includes adult and geriatric patients with cardiopulmonary diagnoses such as CHF, chest pain, and post-cardiac cath (primarily femoral access, some radial)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6; nurse aides available (1:10 days, 1:15 nights)
• Monitor techs are present 24/7; charge RNs read strips, but RNs are also expected to review strips each shift
• RNs are required to titrate critical drips including Nitro (chest pain only), Amiodarone, Lasix, Heparin, and Dopamine (low-dose renal perfusion only)
• Equipment used includes IV pumps, sequential compression devices, pulse oximeters, specialty beds, telemetry monitors, CPAP, BiPAP, and oxygen delivery devices
• EMR: Epic
• 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
• Rotating weekends on a set every-other-weekend schedule (weekends 1 & 3 or weekends 2 & 4)
• Holiday rotation with core staff
• Floating may be required to 3P or 5P (Med-Surg) units or to the ED to care for boarded patients; float pool floats first, then travelers rotate
• Block scheduling is considered but cannot be guaranteed
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Med-Surg and telemetry experience required
• Experience administering and titrating critical drips required
• Travel nursing experience required
• Chemo experience preferred
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Two supervisor/peer references required for consideration (one supervisor reference required if permanently employed within the last 12 months)
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
• Copies of certifications and driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Orientation includes general hospital orientation, a full day of nursing orientation, a full day of computer/Epic training, and two 12-hour precepted orientation shifts
• Travelers may be asked to fill in as charge nurse and can be cross-trained for the role if interested; charge nurses typically carry a modified assignment of approximately 2 patients
• House supervisor is available 24/7
• Scrub color for RNs is solid navy; no embroidery or patterns permitted; closed-toe shoes required (no Crocs); approved outerwear includes WVU Medicine or solid-color fleece zip-ups in grey, black, navy, or royal blue
• Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
