American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU (SICU) travel position at a Level 2 trauma center, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

• Work in a 16-bed SICU (plus 2 procedural beds) within an acute care hospital that serves as a tertiary care center
• Level 2 trauma center with a high-acuity, diverse surgical patient population including cardiovascular surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, AAA), trauma, NSTEMI/STEMI, vascular, neuro, general, ortho, and ENT surgery
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2 standard, 1:1 for high-acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, immediate post-op hearts, MTP, OPO), and 1:3 for med-surg/floor-status patients
• RNs are required to titrate drips including epi, norepi, propofol, precedex, vasopressin, dobutamine, heparin, insulin, dopamine, neo, and milrinone
• RNs independently monitor and document telemetry rhythm strips using GE monitors — no telemetry techs on unit
• Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 with full equipment including vents, BiPAP, and Vapotherm
• An intensivist is in-house 24/7; a charge nurse is present every shift (charge typically does not take patients but may based on census)
• A nursing house supervisor is available 24/7
• Nurse aides are available during day shift only (one NA for the entire unit); NA coverage is not typical on night shift
• 12-hour night shifts (1900–0730)
• Every other weekend required (more if willing)
• Every other holiday required (more if willing)
• Floating may be required to the MICU if not needed in SICU, or to a patient observer role within the hospital if not needed in either ICU
• EMR is Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
• 13-week contract, 36 hours per week

Requirements

• Active WI RN license or compact RN license (must be active by start date)
• Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required
• Experience with high-acuity surgical ICU patient populations is required
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), and NIHSS — all must be active
• TNCC is preferred but not required
• Experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, and ECMO is desired but not required
• Cerner EMR experience is beneficial (system is transitioning to Epic)
• 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience
• BSN is not required

Additional Information

• All nurses care for post-operative Day 1 heart patients; immediate post-op hearts are assigned 1:1 to specifically trained nurses
• Orientation consists of one day of system onboarding/CBT completion followed by two on-unit orientation shifts; a skills checklist must be completed
• No specific scrub color is required — clean and professional attire is expected
• Candidates who previously worked for this health system as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date
• Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect travel pay eligibility
