American Traveler is seeking an RN for a MICU position requiring an active or pending Michigan RN license, BLS, ACLS, NIH certification, and at least one year of ICU experience.

Details

• Work in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) of a hospital with a mixed ICU and PCU patient population
• Typical patient diagnoses include COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fib
• Patient ratios range from 1:1 for high acuity or CRRT patients, 2:1 for ventilator patients, to 3-4:1 for ICU/PCU based on acuity
• Nurses will float to other ICU and Med-Surg units as needed; Med-Surg nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 5-6:1
• Works four 12-hour night shifts per week (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM), with every other weekend required
• Special procedures include CRRT, hemodialysis, A-line, CVC, trach, and chest tube placement
• Unit uses specialized equipment such as cooling machines, Bair Hugger, CRRT devices, and supports massive transfusions
• Must be available for the full orientation week and complete modules during this period

Requirements

• Active or pending Michigan RN license required
• Current BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIH certifications required
• Minimum of one year recent ICU experience required
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, emergency response, ventilator management, CRRT, and IV therapy required
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias and multi-system organ failure
• IV insulin protocol, GI surgery post-op care, management of chronic/acute renal failure, and experience with CVVHD/CRRT required
• Arterial line and central line care, blood product administration, and PICC line management required
• Ability to administer continuous IV sedation, emergency meds, procedural sedation, and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Proficiency in BiPAP/CPAP/ventilator care, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, suctioning, and acute stroke management required
• Proof of flu vaccination required or exemption request within 48 hours of contract signing

Additional Information

• Unit average is 3 ventilated patients daily
• Travelers are first to float within rotation
• Candidates must be available for the entire orientation week and annual module completion
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
• Return staff must have a 6-month gap between assignments
• References are required for consideration
• Flu vaccination compliance is required as part of onboarding
