American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Medical-Surgical position at a corrections-based oncology unit in Ohio, requiring Epic experience and an OH or compact RN license.

Details

• Inpatient corrections unit serving Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) inmates within a locked, access-controlled facility managed by Corrections Officers (COs)
• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Oncology Medical-Surgical (MS) unit; some shifts will be assigned to PCU, others to MS
• Patient population includes active oncology diagnoses/treatments (solid tumors, hematology), oncology workup admissions, and non-oncology diagnoses such as COPD, sepsis, and pneumonia
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3 on the PCU and 1:4–5 on MS units
• CO-to-inmate ratio of 1:2
• Shift is nights (3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30); candidates accepting a 12D/N rotating contract may be scheduled for days, nights, or a mix based on departmental needs
• Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period; changes are not guaranteed and are based on staffing priorities
• Weekend shifts vary based on unit requirements
• Floating to various Oncology MS units required as needed
• EMR: Epic (experience required); Medication dispensing: Pyxis
• 16-week contract

Requirements

• Active OH RN license or valid compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS certification required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Medical-Surgical and telemetry nursing experience required
• Proficiency in telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
• Experience with IV therapy skills including blood product administration, central line care, PICC line management, and IV insertion
• Experience managing respiratory support equipment including CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy care, and non-invasive airway management
• Experience with heparin protocols, cardiac drips (non-titrating), and PCA management
• Oncology experience preferred but not required

Additional Information

• This is a corrections-based unit; nurses are responsible for ensuring staff safety within a secure, locked environment
• Support services available on unit include pharmacy, respiratory services, rapid response teams, physical therapy, radiology, social services, interpretation services, and patient transportation
• Candidates may be scheduled across both the PCU and Oncology MS floors depending on staffing needs
• No 30-day break between assignments is required to change representation at this health system (exception: Sterile Processing Techs still require a 30-day break)
• 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years are required for consideration
• Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained is required for consideration
• All time-off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration
