American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Oncology/Hematology position at a Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center, requiring APHON chemo certification and strong pediatric assessment skills.

Details

• Inpatient pediatric unit within a 885-bed Level 1 Trauma academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC
• Unit covers both Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (PHO) and Pediatric Adolescent Medicine (PA), each with 16 beds, with an average daily census of 14–32 patients
• Patient population includes leukemia, solid tumors, sickle cell crisis, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, behavioral health overlay, and general adolescent medicine
• RN-to-patient ratios: 1:3–4 on Peds Hem/Oncology and 1:4–5 on Peds Adolescent Medicine; CNA ratio 1:6–16
• EMR: Epic; IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell
• Bedside telemetry monitoring available; no telemetry tech on unit
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
• Every-other-weekend rotation required
• No on-call requirement
• Floating required routinely between PA and PHO units, as well as other units within Brenner Children's (excluding Peds ED)

Requirements

• Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• BLS required; PALS preferred for both PHO and PA assignments
• APHON chemotherapy certification required for PHO assignment
• Minimum 1 year of pediatric hematology/oncology acute care experience required for PHO; minimum 1 year of pediatric acute care experience required for PA
• Most recent experience must be within the last year
• Proficiency in central line management and chemotherapy administration
• Strong pediatric assessment and critical thinking skills
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Administer chemotherapy, manage central lines, and provide acute care to a complex pediatric and adolescent patient population
• Department support includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team for difficult peripheral access, resource nurse (availability varies), RT (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7)
• Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Scrub color: royal blue; pediatric-appropriate scrub tops are permitted

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
