American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Pediatric Oncology/Hematology and Adolescent Medicine position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring APHON chemo certification and pediatric specialty experience.

Details

• Work in a 16-bed Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (PHO) unit and a 16-bed Pediatric Adolescent Medicine (PA) unit within a large academic medical center
• Common diagnoses include leukemia, solid tumors, sickle cell crisis, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, behavioral health overlay, and general adolescent medicine
• Patient census averages 14–32 patients per day across both units
• RN-to-patient ratios: 1:3–4 on Peds Hem/Oncology and 1:4–5 on Peds Adolescent Medicine
• EMR: Epic (experience noted); IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell
• Bedside telemetry monitoring available; no telemetry tech on unit
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation every other weekend required
• No on-call requirement
• Floating occurs routinely between the PA and PHO units and other units within the Brenner children's hospital (excluding Peds ED)

Requirements

• Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• BLS required for both units; PALS preferred for both units
• APHON chemotherapy certification required for the PHO unit
• Minimum 1 year of experience in pediatric hematology/oncology acute care (PHO unit) or pediatric acute care (PA unit), with most recent experience within the last year
• Proficiency in central line management and chemotherapy administration required
• Strong pediatric assessment and critical thinking skills required
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

• The facility is an 885-bed Level 1 Trauma Center and academic medical center
• Departmental support includes CNAs, a charge nurse, receptionist/HUC, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7)
• Orientation consists of a general facility NEO followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• A manager clinical interview is required prior to an offer being extended
• Scrub color is royal blue; pediatric-appropriate scrub tops are permitted
• Parking is free
