American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Springfield, IL, requiring an active IL license and a minimum of 1 year of Med/Surg experience.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting in a 562-bed, Level I Trauma Center with Magnet designation
• Medical Surgical unit with an average daily census of 21 patients
• Patient ratio of 1:5 on days, nights, and weekends
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required to other Med/Surg and like units, as well as to nearby affiliate hospitals
• No on-call responsibilities
• Charting via Cerner (experience preferred)

Requirements

• Active IL RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required; AHA and Red Cross cards accepted — RQI AHA cards are not accepted
• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg nursing experience required
• SSN and DOB required for consideration

• Preferred skills include cardiac monitoring (telemetry/remote monitoring), rapid response team experience, and post-angiogram/post-MI care
• Preferred experience with IV insulin protocols, colostomy care, feeding tube management, pre/post hemodialysis, and renal failure
• Preferred IV therapy skills include blood product administration, central line blood draw, PICC line management, peripheral line care, and starting IVs
• Preferred medication experience: heparin, insulin, and PCA management
• Preferred neurological experience: CVA and pre/post neuro surgery
• Preferred respiratory skills: chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, and oral suctioning
• Additional preferred experience: ortho trauma, surgical drains, wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions, and prior charge nurse experience
• Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• RTO of up to 5 days is ideally requested; anything beyond that requires facility approval
• All time off and scheduling requests should be disclosed upfront
• Any former permanent or PRN employee of the Memorial Hospital System must have been away for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Travel pairs are not accepted
• Scrubs may be any solid color
