American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position in a Family Birthing Center setting, requiring active CA RN licensure and at least 1 year of LDRP experience.

• Family Birthing Center in an acute care hospital setting, including LDRP, OB/ED, postpartum overflow, and a dedicated OR suite for C-sections
• Unit includes 2 OB/ED beds, 7 LDRP beds, 4–8 overflow postpartum beds, 1 OR suite for C-sections, and a 2-bed NICU for newborn stabilization
• Averages 70–80 births per month with NST antepartum testing averaging 60–70 per month
• Patient population includes 35+ weeks gestation; may include twin deliveries; patients under 35 weeks are transferred to a higher level of care
• Staffing ratios: 1:2 for laboring patients, 1:1 at delivery, 1:4 for mother/baby couplets
• RNs required to titrate drips, including pitocin and occasional insulin
• Uses Cerner EMR and Fetalink EFM system
• GE fetal monitors used; capable of recording maternal heart rhythm
• Respiratory therapy attends every delivery and manages equipment (ventilator, CPAP, bubble CPAP)
• OB physician in-house 24/7; anesthesia on-call with a 20-minute response time (remains in-house when a patient has an epidural)
• No in-house pediatric coverage; RNs must be comfortable performing NRP at delivery
• Charge nurse or nurse shift manager present on every shift; one OB tech scheduled each shift; no CNAs
• 12-hour day shifts; every other weekend (days: Sat/Sun)
• Floating required to all other Sacramento-area facilities; travelers are first to float
• On-call/standby may be required on scheduled shifts with a 30-minute callback response expectation
• Holiday rotation required alongside core staff
• Scheduling posted 4 weeks in advance

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
• Current certifications required (no pending certifications accepted): BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NRP, and AWHONN Advanced EFM
• Minimum 1 year of LDRP experience required; 3+ years preferred
• L&D-only experience accepted if candidate also has OR circulating experience; candidates with postpartum-only experience will not be considered
• Ability to comfortably perform NRP at delivery without in-house pediatric support
• Experience titrating drips (pitocin, insulin) required
• Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience required
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked (must include dates of employment and rehire eligibility)

Additional Information

• Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past 12 months; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• RNs are required to pass a Relias Dysrhythmia exam before an offer can be confirmed
• On the first day of orientation, RNs are given a pass/fail skills test on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
• A perinatal specialist is on staff to support neonatal complication management
• Patients receiving general anesthesia are recovered in the main PACU, not on the unit
• Local candidates are accepted for this position
