American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg, Telemetry, and PCU Float Pool position in Arizona, requiring at least 2 years of experience, PCU setting experience, and the ability to manage cardiac drips across a two-campus health system.

Details

• Float pool covers MedSurg Tele and PCU units across two campuses, including inpatients holding in the ED
• West campus Stepdown unit has 14 rooms (double occupancy) with an average census of 20; West MedTele has 95 beds divided into 4 areas; MedSurg is organized in 10-room pods with double occupancy
• Patient population includes geriatric, orthopedic, post-procedural cardiac patients (post-MI, post-cardiac cath, CABG post-op day 3–4), with a strong cath lab program
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: PCU 1:4, MedSurg Tele 1:5–6
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin
• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP/BiPAP in MedSurg and BiPAP, CPAP, and Heated High Flow in PCU
• Monitor techs cover PCU and MedSurg Tele; RNs must be able to independently interpret cardiac rhythm strips
• Charting system is Cerner
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• Every other weekend required
• Travelers are first to float; unit assignments are communicated by text message approximately 2 hours prior to shift start
• Campuses are approximately 20–25 minutes apart
• No on-call or standby requirement

Requirements

• Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications will not be accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• At least 1 year of experience in a PCU setting required
• Proficiency managing the majority of titratable cardiac drips (Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Insulin)
• Ability to interpret cardiac rhythm strips independently
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license is used to determine eligibility)
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• RNs must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) with a score of at least 80% within two attempts before an offer can be confirmed
• A pass/fail sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation
• Travelers are included in the permanent staff holiday rotation
• Charge nurses are present on each unit and do not take patient assignments; nurse aides are utilized across all settings
• Orientation includes an 8-hour general hospital orientation day, a 12-hour shift on West MedTele, and a 12-hour shift on the West PCU
• Night shift will attempt to accommodate block scheduling; schedule is published 6 weeks out in 4-week increments
• Scrub color is currently solid professional colors; will transition to navy scrubs in alignment with system guidelines in October
• Travelers should be flexible, as float assignments span both campuses
