American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric PACU position at a Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center, requiring at least 1 year of critical care pediatric experience and prior travel assignment completion.

Details

• Position is based in a 20-bay Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) within a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center with 885 licensed beds
• Average daily census of 30–40 patients
• Primarily serves pediatric patients ages 0–17, covering most surgical specialties with the exception of cardiac
• Both inpatient and outpatient pediatric surgical cases
• Patient ratios are 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity
• Nurses are responsible for telemetry monitoring
• Occasional care for adult patients based on unit needs
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
• 12-hour day shifts, 0900–2100, 36 hours per week
• On-call rotation of 4–5 call shifts per 8-week period, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS and PALS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of critical care pediatric experience required; 2 years preferred, with most recent experience within the last year
• Experience managing ICU-level drips (e.g., heparin, insulin, cardiac gtts) required
• Must have completed at least one prior travel nursing assignment — first-time travelers are not accepted
• 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted

Additional Information

• Cares for post-operative pediatric patients recovering from a wide range of surgical specialties, excluding cardiac
• Vented patients are transferred directly to the ICU; BiPAP use is limited and primarily in post-operative settings
• Role requires comfort with ICU-level drips and a team-oriented, open-bay "all hands on deck" approach to patient care
• Department support includes a transporter, HUC/receptionist, PACU educator, and a dedicated charge/manager who does not take patients; anesthesia is available 24/7
• Orientation includes one facility NEO day and 2 precepted shifts
• Scrubs are provided by the facility

• A manager interview is required as part of the hiring process
• Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
