American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry (Night Shift) position at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring at least 1 year of travel nursing experience and charge or precepting experience.

Details

• Acute care hospital telemetry unit (2 South), a 20-bed all-private-room unit
• Patient population includes telemetry monitoring, post-catheterization, medical/surgical with telemetry needs, and respiratory difficulty
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 for telemetry patients
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7:30a
• Every other weekend required (Friday/Saturday for night shift)
• Rotating holidays required: Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's
• Self-scheduling and block scheduling available depending on unit needs
• Floating may occur to a comparable or lower-acuity unit (telemetry or med/surg); occasional support for admitted boarded patients in the ED or tele patients housed in the ICU
• No on-call requirements
• EMR: Epic (preferred, not required)
• Point-of-care testing includes blood glucose monitoring via AccuChek glucometer with barcode scanning

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS
• Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
• At least 1 year of travel nursing experience required
• Charge nurse and/or precepting experience required
• Comfort with basic dysrhythmia recognition and telemetry strip interpretation required
• Driver's license required for consideration — address must be more than 50 miles from the facility
• Two professional references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required
• Copies of certifications and driver's license required

Additional Information

• Travelers may be asked to serve as charge nurse or preceptor based on comfort level and unit need; this is always discussed in advance and is not mandatory if not comfortable
• Unit is currently telemetry only; stepdown functions are not in use at this time
• 10 rooms feature hardwired cardiac monitors; remaining rooms are portable telemetry-capable; monitor techs on the 6th floor provide remote monitoring and notify the assigned nurse of any concerns
• Nurses are responsible for IV placement and may draw labs from central lines when ordered; nurses reconstitute antibiotics; telemetry patients may have titrating heparin
• Unit-based pharmacist available 7a–3p, 5 days a week; 24/7 main pharmacy coverage; Omnicell medication access provided on-site
• Respiratory therapy is available 24/7; no ventilators on the unit, but all other O2 delivery methods are in use
• Hospitalist coverage is available 24/7
• 2 PCTs support the 20-bed unit with ambulation, vitals, FSBS, bathing, I&O documentation, feeding, turning, and shared Q2-hour rounding with nurses
• EKG testing is required for this unit (pass/fail)
• Orientation consists of approximately 3 shifts: day 1 includes required education modules and shadowing, day 2 is a full orientation shift, and day 3 is independent practice; the first day begins at the corporate center for badge and parking pass before reporting to the unit
• Navy blue scrubs are required and must be provided by the nurse
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being eligible to apply
• Travelers are not permitted to work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year; after reaching that threshold, a 2-year break is required before returning
