American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an IMC/Stepdown position requiring at least 1 year of telemetry and stepdown experience with prior travel experience preferred.

Details

• Work in the IMC (Intermediate Care/Stepdown/PCU) unit of an acute care hospital
• 13-week assignment with 3x12-hour day shifts (0645-1915)
• Patient ratio of 1:4
• Required to work every other weekend
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities for all travelers
• Uses Cerner charting system, experience preferred
• Cardiac, neurological, respiratory, GI, GU/renal, orthopedic, and plastics patient populations managed

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required in hand at time of application
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required, ACLS preferred
• Minimum 1 year of recent experience required in Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, or PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown settings
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring, and use of Rapid Response Teams
• Experience with cardiovascular care including post cardiac angiogram, post MI, pre/post cardiac cath, cardiac surgery, sheath removal, and TR band
• IV therapy and phlebotomy skills including port access, arterial line and central line management, PICC lines, and blood product administration
• Medication management experience including Heparin protocols, cardiac and vasoactive drips (non-titrating and titrating), PCA, and procedural sedation
• Neurological and psychiatric case experience including craniotomy, CVA, neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury
• Orthopedic case experience including ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, and total joint replacements
• Respiratory skills including ventilator care, chest tube management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, and ABG interpretation
• Experience with isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac management
• Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma experience preferred

• Facility is a 562-bed acute care hospital, Level I trauma center, and Magnet-designated hospital
• Provide direct patient care for medically complex stepdown/IMC patients requiring close monitoring
• Collaborate with rapid response and code teams as needed for emergent patient needs
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this role
• Previous permanent or PRN employees must have been separated from the facility for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Travel pairs are not accepted
• Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
• RTO ideally limited to no more than 5 days
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
• Scrub color is any solid color
• Parking permit required at no cost, arranged during orientation
