American Traveler is hiring an experienced Inpatient Psychiatric RN with a current AL or compact license and at least 2 years of acute care experience for an 8-week assignment.

Details

• Inpatient Behavioral Health unit within a hospital setting
• Care for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients on a locked psych unit
• Patient population includes anxiety, bipolar, depressive, psychotic, and schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, substance use, suicidal behavior, and trauma/stressor-related disorders
• Experience with personality disorders preferred
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
• Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
• Every other weekend (EOW) required
• Floating required
• May be asked to serve as Charge Nurse as needed

Requirements

• Active RN license (AL state or compact) required, pending license accepted
• Current BLS certification via AHA required
• NIH Stroke Scale certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of short-term acute care experience required
• Knowledge and skills in seclusion protocols/procedures, crisis intervention, and de-escalation techniques required
• Experience with medication administration including antianxiety, antidepressant, antipsychotic, and mood stabilizer medications
• Skills in starting and maintaining IVs preferred
• Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Paragon charting system experience preferred
• Fit test required
• Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include medication administration, blood glucose monitoring, foley catheter insertion/management, and interpretation of lab values
• Trained in emergency care including cardiac arrest/CPR response, emergent chemical restraints, and physical hold protocols
• Utilizes therapeutic approaches such as crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, managing assaultive behavior, and psychoeducation
• Knowledge of legal aspects of psychiatric care including use of seclusion and voluntary/involuntary commitment required
• Local candidates within 60 miles are considered
• Radius rule of 60 miles applies for eligibility at the standard travel rate
• Requested time off (RTO) is limited to a maximum of 7 days
• Prior permanent employees of the facility are not eligible for this travel position
